GUILSBOROUGH MUSIC & DRAMA SOCIETY SAFEGUARDING POLICY

This policy applies to all members of the Guilsborough Music and Drama Society

The purpose of this policy is:

  • To protect children and young people who join our Society.

  • To provide members with the overarching principles that guide our approach to safeguarding.

  • Guilsborough Music and Drama Society believes that a child or young person should never experience any kind of abuse and that we have a responsibility to promote the welfare of all children and young people and to keep them safe.

  • We are committed to practices that keep children safe and free from harm and risk.

 Legal Framework

This policy is based on the law and guidance that seeks to protect children, namely;
Children’s Act 1989
Protection of Freedoms Act 2012
Relevant government guidance on protecting children
Data Protection Act 1998
Sexual Offences Act 2003
Children’s Act 2004
United Convention Rights of the Child 1991

We recognise that

  • some children are additionally vulnerable because of the impact of previous experiences and their level of dependency

  • working and communicating effectively with other relevant agencies is important in keeping children and young people safe and protecting them from harm

  • the welfare of children is paramount as enshrined by the Children’s Act

  • all children regardless of age, disability, racial heritage, gender, sexual orientation or identity have a right to equal protection from all types of harm and abuse

We will seek to keep children and young people safe by;

  • Valuing them, listening to and respecting them.

  • Adopting appropriate child protection practices.

  • Developing and implementing relevant and effective procedures in relation to children.

  • Sharing information with members about child protection and good practice.

  • Sharing concerns with agencies who need to know, involving parents, carers and children appropriately.

Procedures

  • Children must be properly supervised at all times when rehearsing and/or performing

  • No child will be left alone on site at any time and will always be properly chaperoned and supervised

  • No child will be left alone with one adult (unless a parent or chaperone) at any time.

  • Suitable changing facilities will be provided

  • Absence from school will not arise from any performance

  • Suitable arrangements will be made to transport children to and from the place of rehearsal and/ or performance

  • Children will not be in a performance before 7am

  • No performance will end after 11pm

  • Children must not take part in employment on the day of or after the performance.

 Data Protection Policy

Guilsborough Music & Drama Society is committed to protecting personal information. This Privacy Policy relates to our use of any personal information we collect from you when you come to one of our productions and join our mailing list.

The information we collect

We collect basic personal details such as your name, address, e-mail address, telephone number.

How we use information

We will use your information to tell you about our forthcoming shows and similar events that are likely to be of interest to you. This is called ‘Legitimate Interest’. We will not share your information with third parties without your consent.

Security

We put in place reasonable security measures to protect against any unauthorised access or damage to, or disclosure or loss of, your information.

Your rights

Please let us know if your information changes as it is important that the information we hold about you is accurate and up to date. You are on our mailing list because you have been to one of our productions or have expressed an interest in them. Circulating information to you is a necessary part of promoting our productions but you can ask us to stop sending you this information and remove your details from our files at any time. You have the right to request a copy of all the personal information we hold about you in a Subject Access Request. To do this, simply contact us at the address below We will take reasonable steps to confirm your identity before providing you with details of any personal information we may hold about you.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may amend this Privacy Policy from time to time; for example, to keep it up to date or to comply with legal requirements. If there will be any significant changes made to the use of your personal information in a manner different from that stated, we will seek your permission first.
